Legion to Honor Local Veteran

Kevin Brugger will be one of three local veterans to be honored at a potluck at the American Legion Pot 73, 6 Boon Boulevard, Neillsville
Brugger was born in Platteville. He was the 11th of 12 children. He attended Maple Glen School, a one-room school, for three years and then attended O.E. Gray Elementary. He then attended Platteville Middle School and later graduated from Platteville High School in 1974.
In February 1974, Brugger enlisted in the delayed entry in the U.S. Army and left in June for basic training at Fort Knox, KY. Brugger went to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD, for advanced training as a fuel electrical specialist. He graduated there with honors.
Brugger was then transferred to Fort Carson, CO where he worked on all vehicles as a fourth-echelon mechanic.
In February 1976, Brugger was sent to Wiesbaden, West Germany, as Brigade 76 took over Wiesbaden Air Force Base, which had been abandoned.
Brugger was discharged in 1977 and moved to Neillsville. He worked at Nelson Muffler and M&E Development until the plant closed in 2005. From 2007 to 2015, he worked in the Memorial Medical Center maintenance department. He was also a member of the Neillsville Fire Department for 22 years and was a Clark County Sheriff’s Department reserve officer for 13 years. He was a charter member and a longtime member of the Neillsville Men’s Club. He was on the club’s board for 10 years, which included time as the treasurer.
Brugger married Kathryn in 1975. They have two children: Matthew and Melanie, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Brugger enjoys bowling and has had many high-scoring games, including nine 300 games. He also enjoys hunting, camping and being “Mr. Fix-it” for family and friends. He volunteers at the Neillsville Gun Club.
Brugger will be honored along with James Wasserburger and Richard Wagner at a potluck Monday, Aug. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
