Bishop, Alfred F. "Bud" (25 FEB 1921 – 18 SEP 1972)
Alfred F. "Bud" Bishop, 51, manager of Thor Gas, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), died
unexpectedly Monday evening at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he was
recovering from surgery the previous Wednesday.
Mr. Bishop was born February 25, 1921, at Mineral Point and lived in the Madison
area until 1957, when he moved to Thorp.
He was a member of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, Owen, past president and
director of the Meadowview Country Club, a member of the Thor School Board,
Thorp Lions Club, the Thorp Fire Department, and other civic and service clubs,
and being a veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Thorp American
Legion Post and Madison VFW. He was an avid sport fan and made commendable
contributions to the management of Meadowview County Club during his tenure in
office.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Nolechek of Thorp, and four sons,
Bob, Rick, Bill and David, all at home.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, September 21, 1972, at 10 a.m. at
St. Bernard's Church in Thorp, with the Rev. Francis Brockman and Fr. Alex
Fraser officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.
The family asks that memorial be given to the establishment of a Bud Bishop
Memorial at Thorp High School.
