On Saturday, October 14, 1972, Owen Lodge 317 of Free and Accepted Masons met to
honor three men who have served fifty years of continuous membership in the
Masonic Lodge. The men are Shurleigh Grimes and Roland Haire, Owen, and Burleigh
Grimes of Lake Holcombe.
A very pleasant dinner party was held in their honor at the Meadowview Country
Club at Owen. Master of Ceremonies for the occasion was Mr. M. Peter McMillan of
Owen. On hand to make presentations of the 50-Year Award Certificates and Pins
was Grand Senior Steward, Herman A. Friese of Rice Lake. Speaker of the evening
was Mr. Robert E. Billings, Grand Junior Warden of Clintonville.
Over 100 guests and relatives were on hand to help celebrate the evening. Among
those from out of town were Jane Grimes of Lindenwold, New Jersey; Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Altenburg of Mequon, Jane and Joan are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Shurleigh
Grimes; Mrs. Edna Mae Haire Rogers, James Haire, and Herb Haire, Minneapolis,
Minn.; Frank and Carol Moore of Wabeno; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clark and Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Peirson of Clear Lake; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoeper, Medford.
Friends in the Owen- Withee area join in saying "Congratulations" to the Grimes
brothers and Rol Haire. To have lived 50 years is notable, to have served 50
years is and accomplishment.
