Greschner, Joseph S. (8 JUL 1926 – 20 NOV 1972)
The community was saddened Monday evening when it learned of the tragic death
suffered by Joseph Stanley Greschner, town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) farmer.
Greschner was working in the farm yard of his home unloading corn when his
clothes became entangled in the power take-off of a tractor. His wife found him
entangled in the machinery and called the Owen ambulance service. He was
pronounced dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. The accident
happened at about 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Friday morning at the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church, Owen. Officiating will be Fr. George Becker, Fr. Bornbach, and
Fr. V. Fraser. Burial will be made at Riverside Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Arthur Petke Sr., Arthur Petke Jr., Ray Kaz, Dick Laube,
and Dr. Edward Sluzewski.
Joseph Stanley Greschner was born July 8, 1926 at Almena, Wisconsin, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. John Greschner Sr. He attended grade school at Redville and
graduated from the Withee High School, and since 1952 has successfully farmed in
the town of Longwood. In 1952, on the 29th of July, he was united in marriage to
the former Lois Hiebsch, who mourns his loss, as do three sons, Jeffrey, Michael
and Phillip, all at home, his parents, a brother, John, and a host of relatives
and friends.
"Stan", as he was known to most of his friends, had served on year as clerk of
the town of Longwood, was a member and director of the HOlry Rosary Church in
Owen, as well as a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.
He, too, was a good avid sports fan and a likeable person, but most important of
all, he was a fine devoted father, who will be missed by his family and close
relatives.
