Netzer, Sterling Kathryn (14 JUL 1985 - 1 AUG 2018)
Sterling Kathryn Netzer, 33, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded
by family on Aug. 1, 2018 in Olympia, Wash.
Sterling was born in Madison on July 14, 1985 and joined the Dick and Joan (Ackeret)
Netzer family in 1989. She moved with her family to Olympia, Wash. in 2000 and
graduated from Olympia High School in 2007. Sterling was quite social and quick
to greet others with a “ya ya hi” and request a head pat in return. She enjoyed
time spent gathered with family, friends, school and her church family. Sterling
especially loved festive parties, time outdoors and being with her nieces and
nephews, fondly referred to as “her kids.”
In addition to many regional family adventures, she got to experience a Make a
Wish trip to Disney World in 1994 and went on a family cruise to Alaska in 2013
to celebrate her birthday. Dandy Walker Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy may have
limited her body, but never her spirit. Sterling was a fierce spirit who was
known for overcoming daunting odds. Her life was characterized by contagious
joy, an infectious smile, a love for life and people, and she served as a
wonderful advocate for others with special needs. Sterling was beloved by
everyone who knew her. Her nephew, Judah Burres, summed it up best saying,
“Sterling was the center of love for our family.” She was a daily reminder of
the power of simple love shown in a thousand tiny ways.
Sterling is survived by her parents, Dick and Joan (Ackeret) Netzer of Olympia,
Wash.; four siblings, Shana (Corey) Burres of Tumwater, Wash. Lasse (Stephanie)
of Holte, Denmark, Nicole (Justin) Henry of Wisconsin Rapids and Mitch (Jacque)
Netzer of Lacey, Wash.; and ten nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many
Ackeret and Netzer aunts, uncles and cousins who played an integral part in her
life.
Sterling will be buried in a private ceremony at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in
Medford on Saturday, Aug. 18 with a memorial service and reception following at
First Baptist Church in Medford at 12 p.m., where all are welcome to come
celebrate her life. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to
Sterling’s Memorial Fund at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Thurston County.
