Schmitt, Gertrude T. (30 SEP 1896 – 21 JUN 1969)

Gertrude Theresa Schmitt, 72, Colby (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away Saturday morning, June 21, 1969 at the Marshfield Convalescent Home, where she had resided for the last year and a half.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. There was a general rosary Monday at 8 p.m. Burial took place at St. Mary's Cemetery. Officiating in the services was Rev. Leonard Kaiser, nephew of the deceased.

Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Gertrude Kaiser was born to Lawrence and Mary Kaiser in the town of Cleveland, Marathon Co., Wisconsin, September 30, 1896. She attended Stratford schools. On June 26, 1917 she married Alphonse Schmitt at St. Joseph's Church in Stratford. Her husband preceded her in death February 3, 1959.

The couple farmed in the town of Hull (Marathon Co.) their entire lives. After 1961, she lived in Colby. More recently she lived with a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Peterson at Abbotsford.

Mrs. Schmitt was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers organization.

Surviving are nine daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rita Peterson of Abbotsford; Mrs. Elmer (Maude) Kocian, Colby; Mrs. Harry (Naomi) Kruse, Des Plaines, Illinois; Mrs. Lee (Carmen) Fosdick, Garden Grove, California; Mrs. Leo (Mercedes) Lang of Wauzeka, Wisconsin; Mrs. Angelo (Blanche) Zera, Lincolnwood, Illinois; Mrs. Harold (Mary Ann) Scanlon, Morton Grove, Illinois; Mrs. Lawrence (Verjean) Kunze, Abbotsford; Mrs. Fred (Germaine) Redman, Athens; and four sons, Emery and Mark, Colby; Linus, Wausau, and Timothy of Morton Grove, Illinois. Also surviving are 79 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Brothers and sisters surviving are Mrs. Mary Stienes, Fenwood; Mrs. Susan Rebolz, Columbus, Wisconsin; Peter Kaiser, Marshfield, and Frank and Matt Kaiser of Stratford.

One sister, Katherine, preceded her in death, as did two children, Roman and Pamela.
