Niemi, Carol E. (9 JAN 1962 – 9 AUG 2018)
Carol E. Niemi, 56, Greenwood, lost her courageous battle with cancer on
Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. A Celebration of
Life will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood, on Saturday, Aug. 25,
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
Carol Elaine Lightfoot was born on Jan. 6, 1962, in Savannah, Ga., to Thomas and
Florence A. (nee Williamson) Lightfoot. She grew up in Stone Mountain, Ga., and
graduated from high school in 1980. She married Richard G. Niemi on Oct. 24,
1981. They moved to Greenwood, where they raised their two sons, Jeremy and
Cody. She worked at Fiskars in Spencer, and then ultimately went back to school
to become a nurse and worked at Norwood Health Center in Marshfield until the
time of her death. She had a fierce love for her family and was happiest being
surrounded by them, filling the room at every family function with her
infectious laughter and stories. Carol was a loyal friend to those who had the
opportunity to know her. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed. As
her son said when she passed, there is going to be one kick-ass guardian angel
looking out for us.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Richard; two sons: Jeremy Niemi of
Otsego, Minn., and Cody Niemi of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Ashlynn of Big
Lake, Minn.; a brother, Doyle (Margaret) Lightfoot of Stone Mountain, Ga.; her
step-mother, Barbara Lightfoot of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews,
in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Janet Niemi; and
two brothers-in-law: Brian and Jon.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carol’s name for a
memorial to be established at a later date.
