Lemons, Edna Marie (2 April 1933 – 18 August 2018)

Edna Lemons, age 96, of Neillsville, formerly of Granton, I died Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Riverside Assisted Living facility in Neillsville.

Edna Marie Lemons was born on April 4, 1922, on the family farm, just outside of Colwell, IA, the daughter of Guy and Pearl (Shave) Trask. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Lemons on May 14, 1938 in Osage, IA. They resided in Iowa until 1959 when they moved to a farm in the Town of York. In 1969, they moved to their farm in the Town of Grant. Edna worked as a farm wife and then as a part-time cook at the Granton School District which she started shortly before Lawrence’s death in 1972. Edna worked her way up at the school, starting as a part-time cook then going full time, later becoming assistant cook and finally as the head cook. In addition to cooking at school, Edna, also cooked the meals for the Granton Rotary Club and catered wedding dinners. She retired in 1996 at the age of 74.

Edna was a member of the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, often making Christmas presents and pottery for her family.

She is survived by four children: Barbara (Thomas) Kennison of Orchard, IA, Bonnie Shaw of Neillsville, Lois (David) Schreindl of Marshfield and Larry (Ann) Lemons of Hartford: 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Clay of Duncombe, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, a daughter, Charlene Moore, two granddaughters, Gail Moore and Melanie Person, two sons-in-law, Richard Shaw and Richard Moore, a sister, Dorothy Bass, a brother, Raymond Trask and a brother-in-law, Darrell Bass.

Funeral services for Edna will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 24, 2018 at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor Jacoba Koppert will officiate. Interment will be in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday at the church.
