Klapper, Lillie (12 April 1903 – 14 April 1975)
Word was received here April 14 concerning the death of Mrs. Walter (Lillie)
Klapper, 72, of Cecil, who died in Shawano Hospital of a heart condition.
The former Lillie Hantke was born April 12, 1903, in the Town of Grant to the
late Otto and Mary (Lezotte) Hantke. She attended the old McCarl School and
Neillsville High School.
Her marriage to Walter Klapper took place May 9, 1923, at St. John’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church parsonage in Neillsville. After living in Green Bay for many
years, the Klappers retired to a home on Shawano Lake.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include one daughter, Mrs. Lester
(Jeanette) Buss of Appleton; four sons: Ervin and LaVern of Green Bay, Robert of
Fremont and Orval of Menasha; and 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Tony Hantke, and a sister, Elsie Wolf, both
of Neillsville.
Services were held Thursday afternoon from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the
Town of Washington, rural Cecil, with the Rev. H. E. Wians officiating.
Interment was in the Kunesh Cemetery.
Pallbearers, all grandsons, were: Robert, Ronald, Roger, Dennis and Kenneth
Klapper and Gerald Buss.
Those attending from the Neillsville area were: Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hantke, Elsie
Wolf, Mrs. Ruben Hantke and Pauline, Ella Magnuson and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Kuechenmeister. Also attending with them were Marian Hantke of Minneapolis, Mn.,
and Anita Slocomb of Menomonie.
