After nearly 36 years of public service, Nyole Creed has retired as Postmaster
of Colby.
Mr. Creed’s retirement became effective July 1, 1969.
A postmaster has not yet been named to replace him, but Mrs. Tom Loughead has
been appointed officer-in-charge until an appointment is made.
Mrs. Loughead has helped out at the office on a part time basis for many years.
Mr. Creed first began his service at Unity in 1933, when he started as postal
clerk. He became postmaster in 1934, and has filled that position continuously
since then.
His wife, Siama, became his assistant at the office as a part time clerk in 1941
when it was difficult to get additional help. She stayed on until 1968, when she
retired. Her position was filled by Mrs. Clifford Carlson, who started just a
year ago.
Mr. Creed was born in Unity, and graduated from the Unity High School. He worked
for a time as a cost accountant at Consolidated Water Power and Paper Company,
Wisconsin Rapids, until taking the postal clerk position.
Mr. Creed has also been active in boy scout work, and intends to devote more
time to scouting. He and Mrs. Cree also plan to do some traveling with their
additional time.
