Briski, Dorothy B. (23 MAR 1925 – 19 AUG 2018)
Dorothy B. Briski, 93, Greenwood, passed away at her home on Sunday, Aug. 19,
2018. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 24, at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. Rev. Leo Stanislaus officiated, and burial
followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Briski, Nathan
Briski, Brian Arndt, Tom Olsak, Gerald Harycki and Dale Benzschawel.
Dorothy Barbara Harycki was born on March 23, 1925, in Schiller Park, Ill., to
Basil and Martha (nee Straszkowski) Harycki. When she was a young girl, her
family moved to Thorp, where she attended Yaeger State Graded School and
graduated from Thorp High School in 1944. After high school, Dorothy worked at
Thorp Finance until her marriage to Michael C. Briski Jr. on Aug. 2, 1947, at
St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. She was a homemaker and farmwife, working
on their farm, and also helping her sons when possible. She was a member of St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, where she volunteered at St. Mary’s school for 17 years,
was very active in St. Ann’s Society, and had worked on the town of Reseburg
Election Board for several years. Dorothy had many interests, but especially
loved her husband’s concertina music, doing things for her family, baking,
flowers, gardening, needle work, knitting and crocheting, and playing bingo. She
was an avid traveler after retiring, and was a 13-year cancer survivor.
She will be dearly missed by her two sons: Jerome (Gay) Briski and Duane (Linda)
Briski, both of Greenwood; four grandchildren: Erin Briski, Amber (Brian) Arndt,
and Brian and Nathan Briski; two sisters: Ann Briski of Chippewa Falls and
Florence Olsak of Elk Grove, Ill.; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike, on Dec. 19, 1986;
one sister, Marie Kautenberger; and one brother, Joseph Harycki.
