American Legion to Honor Local Veteran (Bremer - 2018)

Bremer one of Three to be Honored by Legion

Donald Bremer will be one of three veterans to be honored by the American Legion Post 73, in September.

Bremer was born in Eau Claire and attended grade school in Eau Claire. He later attended and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1971.

He joined the Air Force in November 1971 and attended basic training at San Antonio, TX, where he received advanced training in security police.

He was transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base at Rapid City, SD, where he was on the security alert team for the intercontinental missile site.

Bremer was then transferred to Thakli, Thailand, where he worked at the security entry control points in the flight line, close-in bunker, tower duty bomb dump and the entry point into the bomb dump. He also walked patrol on the flight line and on the observation bunker Charlie 42.

His final duty station was Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, ND. He was a flight security controller in dispatch for North Dakota.

Bremer received an early-out to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He then worked for Plautz Brothers. He worked running front-end loaders at various locations. In 1982, Bremer started driving over-the-road trucks.

Bremer has also lived in Texas and Arizona. He retired in 2013.

Bremer married his wife Lona in 1989, and they have a daughter, Edie, and a granddaughter. He rides his motorcycle as a hobby.

Bremer will be honored along with Burnett “Barney” Adams and Ken Jennings at a Monday, Sept. 3 potluck at the Legion, 6 Boon Boulevard, Neillsville. There will be a social hour at 4;30 and the potluck starts at 5:30 p.m.
