American Legion to Honor Local Veteran (Adams - 2018)
Adams to be Honored by Neillsville Legion
Burnett “Barney” Adams, of Hatfield, will be one of three honorees at the
Neillsville American Legion in September.
Adams was born in Richland Center. He attended grade school in Viroqua and
graduated from Viroqua High School in 1970. He attended a year of college in La
Crosse before volunteering for the draft in 1972.
Adams attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and advanced
training at Fort Ord in California for heavy truck driving. He was then
transferred to the 76th Transportation Company in Germany. He was honorably
discharged in august 1974 and discharged from active duty reserves in 1978.
After his discharge, Adams attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and
received a Bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master’s in business
administration and finances.
After college, Adams worked for Northern States Power Company in Minnesota. He
then moved to Madison where he worked at Madison Gas and Electric Company. He
became the vice president of regulatory services and electric generation there.
Adams moved to Tulsa, OK, and became the senior vice president of the Lumin
Energy Corporation. He retired in 2005.
Adams married his wife, Laura, in 1976. They have three children – Brendan,
Rachel and Brittney. They also have six grandchildren, with another on the way.
In 2008, Adams and his wife moved to their home in Hatfield. He has owned that
land for more than 40 years. Adams enjoys reading, woodworking on the lathe,
hunting and fishing.
Adams, Donald Bremer, and Ken Jennings will be honored at a Monday, Sept. 3
potluck at the American Legion Post 73, 6 Boulevard, Neillsville, at 5:30 p.m.
There will be a 4:30 p.m. social hour prior to the potluck.
