Herrick, Marcella Josephine (Scherr) (29 AUG 1919 - 10 AUG 2018)
On Aug. 10, 2018, our mom left this world to join her loved ones.
Marcella Josephine Herrick, 98, was born on Aug. 29, 1919, in Greenwood, to
Peter and Josephine (Falkner) Scherr. After graduating from high school, she
moved to and worked in Oak Park, Ill. In 1942, she returned to Greenwood and
married our father, Florian Herrick, in Willard. While living in Greenwood, two
daughters were born, Donna and Patricia.
In October 1960, Marcella and Florian purchased a service station in Colby
called Herrick’s Service Station for 22.5 years. By example, they taught us,
their daughters, the value of being honest and the merit of proudly working.
After Dad’s passing in 1999, Mom continued to live in her home until two years
ago, at which time she became a resident of Waterford at Colby.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Duayne) Towle of Schofield and Donna
Ohlinger of Ladysmith; three grandchildren, Christopher Ohlinger of Bruce, Julie
(Jorg) Skowranerk of Groton, Mass., and Shannon (Tracy) Kroeplin of Wausau; six
great-grandchildren, Andrew Ohlinger of Superior, Austin Walhof of Houghton,
Mich., Spencer Walhof of Wausau, Madalyn, Kyle and Caitlin Skowranek, all of
Groton, Mass. She is further survived by a great-great-grandson, Isaiah Ohlinger
of Superior; a sister-in-law, Joan Noah; and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Martin Scherr;
sister-in-law, Margaret Scherr; and son-in-law, Jerome Ohlinger.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The
Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Colby
in her name.
The family would like to thank the staff of Waterford and Aspirus Hospice for
their tender care and considerations.
Family and friends may express condolences online at
