Deckelman, Harvey L. (30 JUN 1933 - 29 AUG 2018)

Harvey L. Deckelman, 85, a township of Medford resident, passed away on Wednesday, August 29 at Aspirus Care & Rehab - Medford, where he had resided for the past 8 months.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 4 at Community United Church of Christ, Medford, with Pastor Mary Jo Laabs officiating. Interment will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II, with graveside military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.

Pallbearers are Carissa Blasel, Landon, Vanessa & Jace Laher, Lanice Szomi, Diana Schira & David Deckelman.

Visitation will be at Community United Church of Christ, Medford from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

Harvey was born on June 30, 1933, in the Township of Deer Creek, to George Albert and Adeline Selma (Hoffmann) Deckelman.

He attended town of Deer Creek elementary schools, then attending Medford High School.

On August 29, 1959, at Community United Church of Christ, Harvey was married to Joan E. Brink. Harvey died on the day they were celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary.

After his education, he entered the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. After the service, he returned to Medford and did logging work for Armin Buehler. He worked for 37 years at the Taylor County Highway Department until retirement. He also worked part time with deliveries & mechanic work for Fur Foods in Medford. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting both here and out West, his dogs, fishing, motor cycling, traveling, spending time with family and his grandchildren. He was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Medford; and the Stump Jumpers Snowmobile Club.

Harvey is survived by his spouse, Joan E. Deckelman of Medford; children Sue (Jim) Laher of Medford; Brian (Kerri) Deckelman of Medford; Karen (Eddie) Brandt of Medford; four grandchildren Carissa (Ben) Blasel of Wausau, Landon Laher of Bloomington, MN, Vanessa Laher of Menomonie, Jace Laher of Medford; and brother Ray (Alice) Deckelman of Wausau.

He is predeceased by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made either to the family for a future designation or Community United Church of Christ, Medford.
