Ever since Dave Hediger joined the staff at Kraemer’s County Market in 2007 it was the goal of him and owners Dennis Kramer to have him take over the store once the boss retired.

The long-term plan became a reality recently as Hediger and his wife, Stephanie, officially became the owners of Abbotsford’s grocery store after Kramer retired earlier this summer. Dennis and his wife Beverly had owned it since 1970.

And so, for the first time n a half-century, Abbotsford’s grocery store is not owned by someone with the last name Kramer. Nevertheless, the former IGA store established by Howard and Vivian Kramer in 1960 continued to have a local family at the helm.

The Hedigers live in Colby, and Stephanie used to substitute teach at Colby Elementary before joining the County market staff herself about a year ago. They have two daughters, Abbie, 16, and Lanie, 15, students at Colby High School.
