Loyal American Legion is Honoring Gary Weirauch this week

Gary was born in 1946 and grew up in the Marshfield area. He graduated in 1964 from Marshfield Senior High. After high school, Gary studied at the UW-River Falls for agriculture. After college, Gary was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent 2 years serving his county. Most of Gary's deployment was spent in Germany. Gary was assigned with the Military Police. They all arrived at Frankfurt, Germany and from there they went to Worms, Germany, which was a replacement station. Gary was asked if he could type. Gary could type and he was offered a clerk's job, so he took it. From there he was transported to Augsburg, Germany, where he served his 18 months. His Sergeant was surprisingly from Clintonville, Wisconsin.

Once Gary returned home, he married his wife, Kay, in November 1970. They lived in Minnesota for a short time, and then moved to Thorp, where Gary accepted a position as a loan officer at Farm Credit. In 1974, Gary and Kay moved to Neillsville, where they lived ever since.

Gary worked at Farm Credit for 14 1/2 years before accepting a new position at Neillsville Bank (now Unity Bank). He would eventually secure a job at Citizens State Bank as the Executive VP, later becoming the CEO for the remainder of his career.

Gary has been a member of the Loyal American Legion for 36 years.
