Stacy, George Arnold Sr. (19 September 1934 – 11 September 2018)

George A. Stacy Sr., 83, of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Pine View Care Center in Black River Falls. He was born on September 19, 1934, to Jesse and Bessie (Lowe) Stacy in Tomah.

George was instrumental in spreading knowledge of the Hocak language. He enjoyed teaching the language as well as translating from English to Hocak, the Bible and scriptures, particularly from the Book of Mark. George was in the United States Army from January 1956 through May of 1958. He was the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post # 129 Chaplain (PUFL). In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and long walks in the woods. He especially loved being around his grandkids.

George is survived by his sister, Arlene Keahna of Tama, Iowa; sons, George O. Stacy of Greenwood, and Danny Stacy of Wisconsin Rapids; daughters, Melanie Stacy and Jessica Stacy, both of Black River Falls; 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He also helped father John and Christine Shegonee and many of his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Bessie; brothers: Alfred, Jesse Jr., Maurice and Waldo Stacy; sisters: Marion White, Freida Skye, Alvina Decorah and Ruth Stacy.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, September 14, 2018, at Hocak United Church of Christ, rural Black River Falls. Reverend David McBride will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery where full military honors will be presented by the Andrew Blackhawk American Legion Post # 129 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls and two hours prior to service at the church on Friday.

Pallbearers were: Curtis Redbird, Thomas Redbird IV, Courage Kingswan, Shane Yellowthunder, Jon Thundercloud and Murt Greengrass.

Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
