American Legion to Honor Local Veteran (Holub - 2018)
Holub to be Honored by American Legion Post 73
Terry Holub of Neillsville will be one of three veterans to be honored by the
city’s Legion Post in October.
Holub was born in Viroqua and attended Meadowview Grade School. He graduated
from Neillsville High School in 1967. After high school, Holub was a cement and
construction worker.
Holub joined the Army in May 1968. His basic training was at Fort Campbell, KY.
He also had training at a generator school at Fort Belvoir, VA; in food service
at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and in coaching and sports directing at Fort Bliss,
TX.
He was sent to the 52nd Signal Battalion at Can Tho, Vietnam, Macon Delta, where
he drove a fuel tanker that supplied fuel to outposts and convoys to Saigon.
After arriving, Holub called his parents from Can Tho. It was 100 degrees there
and 30 degrees below zero in Neillsville. He told them he had about 100 days
remaining in Vietnam. Holub was discharged in 1968.
After his discharge, Holub lived in Waterloo, IA, where he worked as a carpenter
and in on-road construction. He moved to Neillsville and worked at Sav-Rite,
Strike Time Lanes and V&H Ford and drove truck for deBoer Transportation.
Holub is married to his wife, Cheryl. They have three children; Edward, Katie
and Sarah. He also has nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Holub enjoys fishing, hunting and four-wheeling.
Holub will be honored along with fellow veterans Art Luedeke and John “Steve”
Karstens. The event will be this Monday, oct. 1, at the American legion Post 73,
6 Boon Blvd., Neillsville. There will be a 4:30 p.m. social hour with a 5:30
p.m. potluck.
