Godden, John (20 JAN 1910 – 20 SEP 1971)
Funeral services for John Godden, 61, who passed away September 20, 1971 after a
short illness, were held at the Thorp Funeral Home, September 22, 1971. Reverend
David Fuller officiated at the two p.m. services, with burial being made in the
East Thorp Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Nourse, Robert Bodamer, Harry Quelle, Corwin C. Guell,
Jack LaGasse, and Russell Mead.
Mr. Godden was born January 20, 1910 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He came to the Thorp
area in 1934. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in
1932, also an M.S. degree in 1968 from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls.
He was a clerk in the Town of Reseburg from 1963 to 1969. On November 6, 1937 he
was married to Edith Katherine Bradle. In 1969 they moved to Mansfield,
Washington, where he was a high school teacher in agriculture. In August of 1971
they moved to Stanley, Wisconsin.
Surviving are: his wife, Edith of Stanley; one son, Edward J. Godden of St.
Louis, Missouri; three daughters, (Katherine) Mrs. Tom Leisz of Amery, (Ruth
Ann) Mrs. Gordon Schmidt of Stanley, and Grace Godden of Seattle, Washington;
two brothers, Robert Godden, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Forrest Godden of
Manley, Iowa; and one sister, (Thelma) Mrs. Charles Jennings of Eugene Oregon.
