A 15-year old Greenwood area girl, Janet Berres, became Clark County’s 7th traffic fatality early Sunday morning. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Berres, rural Greenwood.

Clark County authorities said Miss Berres was traveling east on County Trunk G just west of Greenwood. She was riding a bicycle on the edge of the blacktop highway when a car driven by Jeffrey Rueth, 19, Route 1, Greenwood, came over the hill and struck the rear of the bike.

The girl was thrown into the windshield of the car, then went over the top of the vehicle and slid several feet down the roadway. She suffered multiple injuries, including fracture to both arms and legs, massive head injuries and other deep lacerations.

Rueth’s car continue east, went into a skid, and slid into the south ditch, coming to rest against a highline pole. Ruth was not injured, but according to Clark County traffic officials he has been charge with operating a motor vehicle under the influence. The accident remains under investigation.
