Foster, Leo (20 FEB 1893 – 7 OCT 1971)

Leo Foster, 78, former Neillsville Mayor and alderman, died unexpectedly at Neillsville Memorial Hospital at 8 a.m. last Thursday.

Mr. Foster had served two terms as mayor of Neillsville and was chairman of the Clark County Republican Committee in 1948 and 1949.

He was a special committeeman on the Clark County Draft Board from 1942 to 1944, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in Europe with Company C, 121 Machine Gun Battalion, 32nd Division.

He had served with the Internal Revenue Department for 10 years, and also had held an appointment from the governor as chairman of the Clark County Civil Defense unit.

Mr. Foster was born in La Crosse and attended Wisconsin State University there. He also studied constitutional law for a time. He came to Neillsville with his family in 1938.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Martha Foster, a Neillsville optometrist.

A son, Dr. John Foster, also a Neillsville optometrist, survives.
