It took a little over a year, but the Department of Natural Resources finally
filled the vacant wildlife biologist position for Rusk and Taylor counties this
summer with the hiring of Wausau native Joshua Spiegel.
Spiegel is a 2010 graduate of Northland College in Ashland, where he earned a
four-year bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on wildlife and fish ecology. He
worked as a DNR wildlife technician in Merrill for a couple of years before
spending six months in California working a fisheries research project for UC-Berkeley.
The project had him working on property surrounding Yosemite National Park.
Stationed at the DNR’s Ladysmith office, Spiegel can be contacted at
715-523-4369 or Joshua.Spiegel@wisconsin.gov
regarding local wildlife issues or concerns.
