Salek, Amelia Margaret (Cork) (2 APR 1921 - 5 OCT 2018)

Amelia Margaret Salek, 97, Phillips, Town of Harmony, died in the Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls on Friday, October 5, 2018.

She was born at her family home in the Town of Harmony on April 2, 1921, the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth (Link) Cork. She was a 1939 graduate of the Phillips High School. She was married to John Salek in Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips on June 26, 1941.

She operated a dairy farm with John in the Town of Harmony, and cooked at the Lake 10 School. She was a lifelong member of Saint John Lutheran Church and also of the quilters and the Ladies Aid there. She served on the Town of Harmon Election Board, served as a Leader for the Hillside 4H Club, and was a member of the Jolly Homemakers Club. She was very proud of having voted in every Presidential Election. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, needle point, and in her words, “Drove a lot of tractor, milked a lot of cows, and made a lot of hay –I was a farmers’ wife.”

She is survived by her four children, Sandra (Charles) Tom, Medford, John M. (Elaine), Plainview, MN, Arthur J. (Ann), Castle Rock, CO, and Wendy (Kevin) Behnke, Wausau; by 7 grandchildren, and by 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on September 1, 2002; and is also preceded in death by three brothers, Glendon, Earl, and Raymond Cork.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 10, at Saint John Lutheran Church in Phillips with Pastor Glenn Sokolowski officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Phillips. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
