Charles W. Schmidt began his postal career as a clerk at the Thorp (Clark Co.,
Wis.) Post Office on October 1, 1933. He was promoted to Assistant Postmaster on
January 1, 1944. He served in that position until his retirement on December 11,
1971.
Charles' career with the Post Office Department and the United Postal Service
covered a span of more than thirty-eight years. Throughout his career he has
made many friends, while faithfully performing his duties, and readily adjusted
to the many changes that have taken place since his original appointment.
The employees of the Thorp Post Office and their wives honored Charlie with a
testimonial dinner on Saturday, January 8th.
On behalf of the United States Postal Services, Postmaster Teclaw presented
Charles with a retirement certificate in appreciation for his dedicated and
faithful service.
To help Charles plan the leisure days ahead, his hosts provided him with a
spinning rod and a life jacket.
The postal employees and their families join with the Schmidt's many friends in
wishing them a pleasant and joyful retirement.
