Cleveland, Oakley T. (12 FEB 1950 - 13 OCT 2018)

Oakley T. Cleveland, age 68, of Ladysmith, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 peacefully after a short battle with cancer.

Oakley was born on Feb. 12, 1950 in Rice Lake to Melvin LeRoy and Gladys (Kurtzhals) Cleveland.

Oakley met his future wife Rose Mary Nemec in Rice Lake and they were married in California on Oct. 11, 1969. He worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1970. Making rank of Sergeant, he returned to California in 1972 to his job at the shipyard. He and his family moved back to Wisconsin in 1979 and lived in Ladysmith until his death.

He was an avid hunter, ice fisherman, and legend with his Northern catches and white ice shack sitting every year on Amacoy Lake. He was a master wood carver of fish and wildlife, and his favorite work was an awesome bald eagle.

Oakley is survived by his sons, Adam Trent (Bekah) of Toledo, Ohio, Matthew Oakley (Christi) of Augusta, Ga., Stephan LeRoy (Marie) of Amery, Christopher Cody of Ladysmith and Joshua James of Ladysmith; his grandchildren, Catherine and Alexander of Wisconsin and Rylan of Augusta, Ga.; his brothers, Douglas (Dona) of Sunny Valley, Ore. and Daniel of Rice Lake and his sisters, Marlene (Ray) Coyer of Rice Lake and Suzanne Schoonover of Rice Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Clarice Dunlap, Alice Dearing and Shirley Clay; and his brother, Eldon.

At a future date, his life will be celebrated at his beloved land south of Ladysmith.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services and Celebration of Life Center is assisting the family.
