Residents of the Neillsville Retirement Community presented a check to Highground Executive Director Jon Weiler last week.

“We really appreciate this,” Weiler said. “I look forward to coming back here to spend time with you guys.”

The check presented on Oct. 9 was for $203.70, which was raised during a thrift sale this past fall at the retirement community.

“It’s an honor to have this,” Weiler said.

Weiler said the money will likely go to the Gold Star tribute at The Highground.

:”The Gold Star tribute actually needs to be redone,” Weiler said. “We can’t plant any more flowers in there because we’ve got a really nasty fungus and we can’t plant. Somehow with this fungus, we can’t get it out of the ground unless we basically remove the topsoil out of all of it, and we don’t want to take that away. So, we are going to re-dedicate it and re-do it. That’s where this is going to go.”

The retirement community is planning on having thrift sales as fundraisers for The Highground in spring and summer in 2019.
