Colby High burglarized
The main office and vault of Colby High School was burglarized sometime during
Saturday night, October 6, or early Sunday morning, Colby-Abbotsford police
chief John Nelson said.
An investigation of the crime revealed that entrance was gained by breaking the
glass in the northwest door and reaching in and releasing the panic door handle.
The subject or subjects then went to the man office, where they broke he glass
by the front or north office door in order to reach in and open the door lock
from the inside.
The main office was ransacked by prying open the deck drawers, and moving one
desk away from the vault areas so they could damage the vault and gain entry.
The vault’s metal door is damaged and the dial and knob were knocked off. The
burglars were unable to open the vault door and entry to the vault was gained by
knocking out the cement block in the wall to the left of the door.
The interior of the vault was ransacked, but only a small amount of change was
taken. The files in the principal’s office were gone through, but nothing was
taken.
The burglars apparently thought the Friday football receipts would be in the
building, but they has been placed in the bank’s night deposit, Nelson said.
The area was dusted for fingerprints, but none were found.
