Wavrunek, Thomas Anthony (8 November 1937 – 19 October 2018)
Thomas Wavrunek, age 80, of Neillsville, WI died Friday, October 19, 2018 at the
Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.
Thomas Anthony Wavrunek was born on November 8, 1937 in Neillsville, WI the son
of Joseph and Edna (Collins) Wavrunek. He graduated from Neillsville High School
in 1956 and then attended UW-Stevens Point, was a member of the Tau Kappa
Epsilon Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology in 1962.
Tom then did one year of post graduate work at the University of Nebraska. After
his marriage to Joan Meinholdt on September 12, 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Neillsville, they moved to Milwaukee. After returning to Neillsville,
they owned and operated the Clothing Cupboard until 1981 when Tom joined his
father at Clark County Abstract Co. Tom became owner in 1986 and, 2006, sold the
business and retired.
Tom was a member of the Ruff Grouse Society. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and
spent many good times at the cabin on Lake Namakagon with his best friend, Tom
Meier and other good friends and family. He enjoyed canoeing and the skiing
trips out west with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, two sisters, Audrey Speier of Ripon, and
Kathleen Pichler of Eau Claire, a sister-in-law, Marion Wavrunek of Colby, and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna Wavrunek, two brothers,
Bernard Wavrunek and James Wavrunek, two nephews, Tom Pichler and Mark Speier,
two brothers-in-law, Norbert Speier and Arnold Pichler and his three prized
labs, Prince, Clyde and Jake.
As per Tom’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.
Joan would like to thank the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center in
Neillsville and the Ministry Care Hospice – Ascension for the compassionate care
Tom received this past year.
