Dodte, Esther (Writer’s Certificate – 3 May 1975)
An honorable mention certificate has been won by Esther Dodte, Rt. 1
Neillsville, in the “Yarns of Yesteryear” contest for senior citizens. The award
was made at the spring conference of the Wisconsin Regional Writers association
held at Phillips, May 3. Her entry was entitled, “I Remember Drs. Conroy.”
The contest, inspired by the national bicentennial celebration, was sponsored by
the UW Extension Programs on Aging, UW Extension Arts and the Wisconsin Regional
Writers Association. It drew 659 entries from 271 communities in the state.
Contestants ranged from 60 to 96 years of age.
The award presentation took place in Phillips recently and was the 26th annual
gathering of the group, who awarded Esther the prize for her recollections of
early doctors. Also attending from Clark County were Helen Ouimette and Florence
Garbush.
