Hartwig, William Wayne "Bill" (30 DEC 1924 - 18 OCT 2006)

William Wayne "Bill" Hartwig, 81, Athens, died Wednesday October 18, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.

He was born December 30, 1924, in St. Paul, Minnesota. On February 10, 1964, he married Patricia Herman in Medford, she survives.

William was a decorated World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy for nine years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Among his other hobbies, Bill enjoyed watching Wisconsin football, the Packers and Badgers and also woodworking and building canes. William is a member of the Veterans Foreign Wars Klossner Dietzler Post #5729, Medford.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hartwig, Athens; four children: Deb Klocke, Wausau, Bob (Janice) Hartwig, Portage, Lynn (Mike) Balz, Athens, and Dan Hartwig, Athens; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Bach, Medford; and further survived by numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Earl, Harvey, George "Bud" Jr., Tom, and John W.; sisters: Mary Richard and Adeline Hartwig; and a son-in-law, Bruce Klocke.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday October 21, 2006, at Peterson Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens. Rev. James Babler will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Athens Funeral Home.
