Steinert, Duane “Stub” (20 MAR 1937 - 24 OCT 2018)
Duane “Stub” Steinert, 81, of Nekoosa, died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018 at
Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at Bethlehem Lutheran
Church in Nekoosa with Rev. Dennis Schwalenberg officiating. Military rites will
be conducted by Nekoosa VFW Post No. 5960. Visitation will be held at Feldner/Ritchay
Funeral Home in Nekoosa on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on
Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Duane was born on March 20, 1937 in Nekoosa to Herman and Pearl (Burnett)
Steinert Sr. He served in the US Army as a member of the 32nd Red Arrow
Division. He married Judy Meier on June 12, 1965 in Nekoosa. For 42 years Stub
was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc. as a super calendar operator, retiring
in 1998. In earlier years he was employed by Curt’s Dairy in Nekoosa and the
Nekoosa Foundry.
Duane loved old cars, including his 1940 Ford Coupe, which he took to many car
shows. His interests also included riding his bicycle, golfing and restoring old
furniture. He and Judy loved spending time at their cottage in Medford that they
decorated in Mickey Mouse Style. He was a proud husband, father and grandpa.
Duane is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Steinert; his daughter, Michele
(Mark) Heminger of Rochester, Minn.; granddaughter, Morgan Heminger of Sun
Prairie; his brother, Herman (Alice) Steinert Jr. of Nekoosa; and many nieces
and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Steinert; and his
in-laws, Albert and Pearl Meier.
