Klay, Walter Edgar “Walt” (27 MAY 1927 - 11 MAR 2012)
Walter Edgar Klay, 84, Kronenwetter, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his home.
Walter was born May 27, 1927 to the late Christian and Esther (Hansen) Klay in
Glen Flora, Wis.
Walt and Phyllis Louise (Kittelson) were married on March 20, 1949 in
International Falls, Minnesota where they spent the first fourteen years of
their life. They then moved their family to Withee, Wisconsin where Walt began
his career in specialty advertising sales. He was a man of strong faith and was
a long-time member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee, Wisconsin. Following a
2001 moved to Wausau, Walt retired from sales in 2005.
Walter served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in 1945-46 during WWII. He
was stationed in Germany with HQ Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment
as a motor pool driver, transporting those involved with the Nuremberg Trials.
He also took part in the first Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington D.C.
in April of 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; three sons; Terry (Gail) Klay, Rick
(Leonor) Klay, and Allan (Karen) Klay, all of Wausau; a daughter, Gwendolyn
Klay, Sauk City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister,
Esther Baehr, Mosinee.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Nazareth Lutheran
Church, in Withee. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services at
the church.
Brainard Funeral Home-Everest Chapel, 5712 Memorial Court, Weston is assisting
the family with the arrangements.
