Urban, Virdella J. (Williams) (26 AUG 1942 - 28 OCT 2018)

Virdella J. Urban, 76 years old, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 28, 2018. She had an unexpected stroke on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, and received excellent care in the Palliative Care Unit of Aspirus Hospital until her death.

Virdella was born on Aug. 26, 1942, in Chicago, Ill., to the late E. Clydell and Virginia Williams. She graduated from Downers Grove North High School in Ill. in 1960 and received additional business training in Chicago for comptometer and keypunch. After graduation, she was employed at Burlington Railroad in Chicago.

On Dec. 1, 1962, Virdella married Glenn R. Urban in Westmont, Ill. They were married for over 55 years and had four daughters. In 1973, they moved their growing family to Edgar with hopes to enjoy country living. Virdella stayed at home with their young children. Later, she worked for Wausau Insurance in the human resources department for over 20 years. All throughout her adult life, Virdella took joy in teaching her children, other children and women about God and His word. She actively taught in the AWANA program, Sunday School, and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was quiet and often underestimated. She was firm in her convictions and tactfully shared what she thought, even if it wasn’t easy. She was always there to listen, with a smile, a hug, a laugh, an encouraging word, or a helping hand.

Virdella is survived by her husband, Glenn; their four daughters, Kathy (Robert) Ross of Edgar, Kristine (Jeffrey) Leitzke of Weston, Karen (Joel) Rossman of Omaha, Neb., and Kimberly (Jason) Peters of Colorado Springs, Colo.; along with 12 grandchildren, Andrew (Ruth) Ross, Matthew (Paige) Ross, Emily Ross, Peter Ross, Jason (Megan) Leitzke, Allison Leitzke, Olivia Rossman, Brittany Peters, Wesley Peters, Tiffany Peters, Lindsay Peters and Jack Peters. Virdella also has four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her two sisters, Judy (Charles) Smith of Rushville, Ill., and Sue (Michael) Beckley of Knoxville, Tenn.; and her sister-in-law, Carol Williams of Pleasanton, Calif.

Her twin brother, Richard Williams, preceded her in death earlier this year.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, from 9 - 11 a.m. at Peterson Kraemer Funeral Home in Edgar. A service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. with a graveside memorial following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Thru The Bible (www.ttb.org).
