Neillsville FFA Alumni (Pancake Feed – 2018)
Neillsville FFA Alumni Hosting Pancake Feed
By Valerie Brecht
The Neillsville FFA and FFA Alumni will once again cook up some flapjacks and
other scrumptious breakfast foods for the community. The annual all-you-can-eat
pancake feed is this Sunday Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Neillsville High
School Cafeteria.
The menu includes regular and potato pancakes, sausage, cheese curds, coffee and
milk. Alumni members will cook while students serve the meal and wash dishes.
Proceeds from the pancake breakfast will go toward scholarships for graduating
FFA seniors attending a technical college or four-year university.
“We typically give around $2,000 in scholarships annually,” said Amy Gerhardt,
FFA advisor and agriculture instructor at the high school.
Additionally, this year’s pancake breakfast will feature a bake sale to benefit
Spanish Club and FFA members that are traveling to Washington D. C. for a
leadership conference in summer 2019.
Gerhardt said the breakfast was an all-around positive event.
“This event not only has delicious food but is an opportunity for community
members to come together for a great cause. FFA has a strong sense of community,
so being involved in this endeavor is perfect,” she said. “It also is an
opportunity for members to increase confidence when serving food or waiting on
tables.”
Gerhardt explained that the breakfast is one of several fundraisers and events
the FFA puts on throughout the year. The youth FFA chapter has a fruit sale
annually and runs several food stands to raise funds for FFA leadership
conferences throughout the year.
The FFA Alumni also has a hog raffle with tickets going on sale the day of the
pancake breakfast. This year’s hog was raised by Neillsville FFA member Dawson
Gerhardt and donated to the Neillsville FFA Alumni by Seehafer Refrigeration of
Marshfield.
