First Lieutenant James D. Runzheimer, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Runzheimer of
Colby (Clark Co., Wis.), will join the Green Berets in Germany. He graduated
from the United States Army Special Forces Officers course at Ft. Bragg, North
Carolina, on September 26, 1969.
The United States Army Special Forces are known to civilians as Green Berets.
Consisting of 12 weeks of instruction the special forces officers course trains
Army officers in the special forces mission of guerrilla and counter guerrilla
warfare. The 12 weeks concluded with a 10-day training exercise in southern
North Carolina in a simulated cold war guerrilla environment.
Lt. Runzheimer is a June 1967 graduate of the University of Wisconsin at
Madison. He is a graduate of the United States Army Infantry Officer Candidate
course and the U.S. Army Airborne course, both at Ft. Binning, Georgia, and the
Turkish language course at the Defense Language Institute – West Coast at
Monterey, California. After a short leave. Lt. Runzheimer will be assigned to
the special forces detachment (airborne), Europe, located at Bad Toelz, West
Germany.
Attending the graduation exercise at Ft. Bragg on September 26 were Mr. Walter
Runzheimer and daughter, Susan.
