Isaac Bronson (Brunson) was the oldest child of Lewis and Christenah Bronson
(Brunson. He was born in Pennsylvania about 1845 and was living in Morris
Township at the time of the 1850 US Census. The family moved to Wisconsin about
1857, and were early pioneers living in Pine Valley when the 1860 US Census was
conducted.
Isaac volunteered at the age of 19 for the Union Army during the Civil War,
beginning his one-year enlistment on Mar 22, 1865 at the rank of corporal with
the 52nd Wisconsin Infantry Regiment (Company D).
Confederate forces surrendered on Apr 9. That month Isaac’s regiment was ordered
to Holden, Missouri – 248 miles from St. Louis – where it guarded workmen on the
Pacific railway and furnished scouting parties for protection against
bushwhackers.
Two months after
beginning his enlistment, Isaac died of sickness on May 17, 1865. He is buried
at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery near St. Louis, Missouri. Isaac was too
young to have the opportunity to marry but left many nieces and nephews.
