Seven anti-nuclear activists and two members of a Chicago-based ABC News
television crew were arrested Monday afternoon during a protest at the Air
Force’s GWEN tower site five miles east of Medford.
According to Taylor County Sheriff Bill Breneman, all nine face charges of
criminal trespass. Criminal trespass is a class A misdemeanor, which carried a
possible penalty of up to nine months in jail and/or a $10,000 fine. Because the
trespass was on property owned by the federal government, Breneman said the
charges could be upgraded to a federal offense.
He added that it is possible they may also be charged with criminal damage to
property.
