Vernon was born Nov. 26, 1926, to Walter and Ella (Neuhaus) Baumgartner in Colby. Vern was united in marriage to Dorothy Young on June 25, 1949, in Colby. Together they raised three children, Diane (Donald) Jacquart of Delafield, David (Wanda) of Elk River, Minn., and Dennis (Mary Baker) of Colby. Vern worked for PCA in Colby for 39 years.

Vern was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Colby. Every weekend Vern and Dorothy would head up to their cabin on Pier Lake near Tripoli. That’s where they enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to play a mean hand of cribbage with his kids and grandkids. Vern enjoyed spending time at the sugar shack making syrup.

Vern is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, Diane, Dave and Dennis; five grandchildren, Leslie (fiancéf Matt Young) Meyers of Waterford, Lori (Travis) Deters of Otsego, Minn., Scot (Liz) Baumgartner of Colby, Mike (Brenna) Baumgartner of Monticello, Minn., and Jessica (Brent) Haas of Unity; 14 great-grandchildren, Luke, Caleb, Ezra, and Levi Haas, Dominic and Savannah Meyers, Ava, Noah, and Jonas Deters, Kya and Brody Viegut, Stella and Ruby Baumgartner, and Reid Baumgartner. He is further survived by his sister, Lucille (Ron) Nelsen of Dekalb, Ill.; his brothers, Harold of Cook, Minn., and James (Pat) of Colby; sister-in-law, Irene Baumgartner; many nieces and nephews; friends, and family.

Vernon was preceded in death by the infant twin sons of David and Wanda Baumgartner; his parents; his brother, Donald of Cook, Minn.; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Baumgartner, Cook, Minn.

The family of Vern Baumgartner want to send a special thank you to his caregivers: Mary Pohlman, Judy Venzke, Bonnie Malotky and Viki Luzinski and his special nurses at Ministry Hospice for the amazing job they did caring for him.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is assisting the Baumgartner family with arrangements.
