Taylor county highway construction and maintenance has moved ahead this year in
spite of the wet weather this season. In a progress report made Tuesday, county
highway commissioner Gordon Hamrick said, “We were forced to change out plans
due to heavy rainfall, diverting efforts toward emergency type of work, some of
which was caused by the heavy rains.” He added that work having to be delayed
this year will receive priority at the outset of the next season.
The county highway department’s major project this season was the construction
of the $154,000 bridge across the Black river on A & T in the town of
Maplehurst. The 281 foot span replaces the old iron bridge known as the “McVey
Bridge.”
