Mais, Ferdinand “Ferdy” Jr. (6 DEC 1921 - 26 OCT 2018)
Ferdinand “Ferdy” Mais Jr. died Friday October 26, 2018 at North Central Health
Care under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Ferdy was born December 6, 1921 in the town of Berlin to the late Ferdinand Sr.
and Augusta (Mohr) Mais. He was the youngest of 15 children. On June 1, 1946 he
married Dorothy Penno at Trinity Lutheran Church of Athens. Together they shared
72 years of marriage.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1946 in
the signal core and as an interpreter in Germany. Ferdy was employed as a
cabinetmaker for Curtis Co. and later with the US Postal Service until his
retirement in May 1983.
Ferdy enjoyed woodworking projects whether the project was repairing or building
something new. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife at their cottage up
north either fishing, hunting or working on the cottage. When they were not up
north they were traveling and Ferdy especially enjoyed their trip to Europe.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, son Brian (Joan), brother-in-law Carl Penno
and many other family members and friends.
A private family service will be held, and burial will take place at Restlawn
Memorial Park.
