Neuendorf, Harvey Richard (5 July 1922 – 27 November 2018) With Flag
Harvey Neuendorf, age 96, of Neillsville, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at his
home.
Harvey Richard Neuendorf was born on July 5, 1922 near Bear Creek in the
township of Nicholson, to Edwin H.A. and Ottilie (Lemke) Neuendorf. The family
lived in rural Bear Creek until Harvey was about 3½ at which time his father
passed away. His mother sold the farm and the family moved to Clintonville. He
attended schools in Friestadt and Clintonville, graduating from Clintonville
High School in 1940. He moved to Milwaukee, where he was employed at his uncle’s
foundry. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942, where he met the love of his
life, Virginia I. Hughes, and they married at Buckley Field in Colorado on
December 30, 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Sergeant.
After his discharge, he returned to Milwaukee where he continued working in the
foundry business. He moved to Neillsville in 1970 where he was plant
superintendent of the Neillsville foundry until his retirement.
Harvey’s interests included stamp collecting, fishing, hunting, bowling and
gardening. He loved it when the family would gather together, and he made
awesome grilled chicken.
He was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was
instrumental in starting the kindergarten program. He also served as an elder in
the church.
He is survived by his three children, Charles (Kristin) Neuendorf of
Neillsville, Robert (Rhonda) Neuendorf of West Allis, and Susie (Russell) Karl
of Neillsville, nine grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia on July 2, 2011, a grandson,
Daniel, two granddaughters, Stephanie and Sherrie, his parents, step-dad, Oscar
Noak, two brothers, four sisters and nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Harvey will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1,
2018 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Timothy
Biebert will officiate. Music will be provided by Judy Trunkel, organist.
Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00
to 11:00 a.m., Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Casket Bearers are: Darrin, D.J., Timothy and Nick Neuendorf, Derrick, Richard
and Brendon Krueger.
The family would like to thank Ministry Home Care Hospice for their loving care
of Dad.
