The rationing of meats, butter, lard, cooking fats and oils ended Saturday. The
announcement was made by the Secretary of Agriculture Anderson, and had the
approval of Chester Bowles, OPA administrator.
Consumers were instructed by OPA to hang onto their red stamp ration books,
however, because these will be used for sugar rationing.
The meat picture as announced by the supply agency with OPA’s approval estimates
165 pounds per capita per year at present. This compares with 150 pounds per
capita, which was the 1935-1939 average consumption.
