Makovec, Emily M. (Jagodzinski) (19 DEC 1924 - 11 DEC 2018)
Emily M. Makovec, age 93, of Green Grove, passed away on Tuesday, December 11,
2018 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at
St. Katherine's Episcopal Church in Owen. The Rev. Tony Ring will officiate.
Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Wednesday
at the church.
Emily was born on December 19, 1924, the daughter of Paul and Clara (Miller)
Jagodzinski in the Township of Green Grove. She graduated from Owen High School.
On September 23, 1944, Emily was united in marriage to Joseph Makovec in Owen.
He preceded her in death in 1986.
Emily and her husband, Joe, farmed in the Township of Green Grove for over 40
years, but her true calling was a caregiver. She obtained her CNA certificate
later in life. Emily was employed at the Colonial Center in Colby and
subsequently at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. Family, neighbors and
friends called upon Emily as they knew she would be willing to offer care when
they needed it-expecting nothing in return.
Emily was musically gifted playing many instruments by ear. She loved to sing,
especially harmonizing with her two sisters as the Jag-a-Longs, singing at
church events near their home in Atwood. Emily loved to write poems about her
humble beginnings, even winning a first place certificate when she entered her
poem entitled "The Farm" in a publisher's contest.
Emily loved to travel and visited places in England, Germany, Belgium and
Indonesia. She was a competitive athlete and loved to play softball and golf.
Emily resided at The Waterford in Colby since August of 2017 and was proud to be
one of the Hotshots on their bean bag team known as "The Waterford Hotshots".
Emily is survived by her six children: Joan (Jim) Carlsen of Chippewa Falls,
Barb Gruetzmacher of Owen, Marilyn (Kim) Frederickson of Owen, Lori Woldt (Bob
Swoboda) of Wausau, Joe (Jody) Makovec of Stanley and John (Mary) Makovec of
Iola; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by
her brother, Arnie Jagodzinski (Emerita Phillips) of Green Grove; many nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; her daughter, Janet
in 1970; six siblings: Don, Marge, Lillian, Ruthie, infant brothers, James and
Paul.
A special thanks goes out to her brother, Arnie, for his ongoing support; Rev.
Tony Ring of St. Katherine's Episcopal Church for supporting her spiritually;
the Waterford of Colby with special thanks to Becky, the Hotshot coach and
activity director and in her final journey, the House of the Dove in Marshfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest memorials be directed to
St. Katherine's Episcopal Church, 200 E. 3rd St, Owen, WI 54460.
