Andrew Sisko, 97, Survived by his children Dennis (Darlene) Sisko, Bruce (Margaret) Sisko, Andrea (Bern) Lapacinski, Brian (Kris) Sisko, James (Joy) Sisko, Scott (Mary) Sisko, and Jerome Sisko; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Helen (Lazar), his daughter Maureen (Ken) Henneman, his parents, Bartholomew and Marie Sisko, sisters Elizabeth Sisko, Mary Baker, Ann Koval, Celia Novak, Amelia Vrana, Helen, and brothers Joseph, John, Robert, Peter, Steve, and Frank.

Andrew was born November 28, 1921 to Bartholomew and Marie (Gurka) Sisko in the Town of South Fork, Rusk County, WI. He grew up on the Sisko farm in the Town of Hawkins. In 1938, Andrew moved to Chicago where he worked construction on the subway system. In early 1942 he enlisted in the US Army. He served two and one-half years with the 85th Squadron, 47th Bomb Group in North Africa and Europe. He was stationed in Algeria, Tunisia, Malta, Sicily, Italy, Corsica and France. He shook hands with Pope Pius XII, visited Mt. Vesuvius near Naples, and climbed the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Andrew married Helen (Lazar) after his return from service on August 18, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Fork. They purchased a farm in Hawkins in 1946, where they lived, farmed, and raised eight children.

Andrew was active at St. Mary’s Church, serving on numerous committees and was a member of the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He served as a Hawkins Town Board member, Rusk County Board member, and ASC Committee member for Rusk/Sawyer Counties. He was also active with the Hawkins American Legion. Andrew enjoyed deer hunting, trout fishing, and watching the Packers win Super Bowls.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Fork on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Inna Pothireddy officiating. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Ladysmith Veterans Association and Hawkins American Legion Post #174 will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, December 17th from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. at the Nash – Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith and again on Tuesday morning at the church for an hour prior to the mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund or the Hawkins Area Library for a defibrillator.
