A fire early Friday morning destroyed the barn and most of its contents at the
Vernon Boss farm, route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.).
The barn was leveled and five milk cows and seven young stock were killed in the
blaze. Machinery destroyed included a combine, self-unloading wagon and a
blower. The silos were also damaged, but he condition of their contents was not
determined.
The fire was discovered by neighbors about 12:30 a.m. The blaze was out of
control by the time the family was awakened.
Volunteers from the Colby and Curtiss Fire Departments fought the blaze through
the night, during which high winds fanned the flames.
The stock that was saved from the fire will be housed in a nearby barn owned by
Boss, and in barns of his neighbors.
