Gale Ann Jarvis was born September 7, 1952 at Crystal Falls, Michigan. Gayle
moved to this community (Withee, Clark Co., Wis.) with her parents and obtained
her early education in the Owen-Withee school, where she was a good student and
popular among the student body. She had a radiant personality and an indelible
smile. And the community mourins the tragic loss of this young personality and
express their sympathy to the survivors who are:
Dr. and Mrs. A.A. Jarvis, Withee, and a brother Gary at home; and her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mitchell, Iron River, Michigan, and Mrs.
Jennie Jarvis, Crystal Falls, Michigan.

Gayle Jarvis, 20, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. A. A. Jarvis of Withee, and Owen
veterinarian, died in a flaming car crash at 1:07 a.m. Wednesday
She was the driver of the fatal car. It is reported a passenger, jack Barager,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barager, Owen newspaper, is burned seriously on the
lower part of his body.
The accident occurred near the Black River Cemetery gate on Highway X, and is
reported at the time of the accident, the Withee police officer was reprimanding
a motorist at the side of the highway for a minor violation.
The Jarvis car, going west, slowed down at the scene. Her car was then hit in
the rar by another car going west also, at a high rate of speed.
The impact turned the car over on its top, spun it around on the highway and
into the ditch, bursting into flames.
Barager was able to crawl out of the car, however, Miss Jarvis was wedged in the
wrecked car.
Robert Vater of Owen, was the driver of the other car that crashed into the
Jarvis car. His passenger was Helen Missling of Withee. Neither is reported
seriously injured.
Sheriff Dave Bertz’ department and the county traffic officers assisted at the
scene of the accident.
