Schroeder, Arthur Paul Sr. (27 March 1924 – 12 December 2018) With Flag
Corvallis, Montana – Arthur P. Schroeder, Sr., of Corvallis, MT, and Fall Creek,
WI, was brought home to Jesus on December 12, 2018 at the Discovery Assisted
Living Center in Hamilton, MT., surrounded by family and caring staff.
He was born March 27, 1924, to the late Erwin and Martha Schroeder. Also,
preceding him in death were Ervie (Marie) Schroeder of Racine, and grandson,
Matthew J. Barber. Art was born and raised in Racine and graduated from Racine
Horleck High School after which he joined the Navy. He served in WWII from 1943
– 1946 and Korea from 1951 – 1952 aboard the Troop Transport Ship USS Henrico
APA45 in the Pacific as an Electrician Mate 2. He received various medals and a
Presidential Unit Citation. In 1945, he returned to Black River Falls, built a
cabin in Hatfield, and started work at the Black River Falls Ranger Station
until he became a Game Warden in 1954.
He married the love of his life, Marguerite Hediger in June 1950 and moved to
Neillsville; later transferring to Milwaukee and family to Fall Creek, where he
retired after serving many years as a Conservation Warden in Law Enforcement and
DNR. In 1992, they relocated to Corvallis, MT, a lifelong dream achieved.
Together Art and Meg raised four children: Dawn, Pam, Denise, and Arty, 13
grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Art enjoyed raising Herefords and crops, fished in WI, Canada and Alaska and
sold Christmas Trees in Texas with family. He traveled the U.S., playing the
accordions and telling warden and war stories with friends and ol’ timers.
A spring memorial and celebration of life/polka bratfest will be held in Montana
on Memorial Day Weekend and in Wisconsin at a date to be announced. All letters
and cards should be sent to Meg Schroeder, P.O. Box 236, Corvallis, MT 59828.
