Holy Cross Convent Chapel in Merrill was the site Saturday, May 5, 1973 of the
wedding of Miss Kathleen Ann Hilt and William Reuben Ponko.
The Rev. Jim Dluge, assistant pastor at St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Francis
Xavier Catholic Churches, and the Rev. Gerhard Bretheim, pastor of Our Savior's
Lutheran Church, officiated at the 12 noon rite.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William P. Hilt, formerly of Owen
(Clark Co., Wis.), now of Lake Pesobic, Merrill, and the bridegroom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Ponko, 2611 W. Main Street, Merrill.
Nuptal music was provided by Ron McMahon, organist; Robert Lopez, guitarist, and
Mrs. Beth Leikip, soloist.
Miss Jeanne Hilt, Madison, was the maid of honor for her sister.
Michael Ponko, Oxnard, California, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man.
Guests were ushered by Douglas Wiscktrom, South Bend, Indiana; Robert Lechelt,
Merrill, and Mike Strenski, Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
The bride appeared in a gown of candlelight organza silk and cluny lace, with a
Watteau length train. Her floor length cathedral veil was edged with cluny lace.
She carried a bouquet of baby's breath and yellow wobern abby roses..
Her attendant wore a gown of silk organza, with a floral pattern of coral roses
on an ivory background, was edged in lace. She carried an ivory parasol and
baby's breath, and wore a large picture hat with a band of real flowers.
Honored guests were the bride's grandmothers, Mrs. William Hilt Sr., Owen, and
Mrs. John Bornhofen, formerly of Owen.
A reception was held at the Merrill Country Club.
Following a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin, the couple will live at 1150 E.
Milton Street, South Bend, Indiana.
The bride is a 1966 graduate of Merrill Senior High School and is a 1971
graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with a Master's Degree in
social work. She had been employed at Browndale Treatment Centers for Children
in Toronto, Madison, and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The bridegroom is also a 1966 MHS graduate, and a 1971 graduate of Nortre Dame
University, South Bend, Indiana. He is an architect employed with LeRoy Troyer
and Associates, an architecture and planning firm in Mishawaka, Indiana.
