Latta, Dale L. (18 DEC 1957 – 01 JUN 1973)
Dale L. Latta, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), and a freshman at Owen-Withee High
School, drowned in the Black River west of Withee about med-afternoon Friday,
while swimming with three companions.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Latta.
According to Clark County authorities the youth disappeared in water around 3:45
p.m. The body was recovered by County Traffic officer Everett Lindgren about
4:30 p.m. in six feet of water.
At the river with the youth were James Potter, 26, Owen, James Litten and Jeff
Litten, 14. The four had spent a few minutes swimming and were returning to
shore when the young Latta disappeared.
Potter drove to the home of the victim’s parents and authorities were notified.
The body was taken to the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home and then transferred to the
Gillespie Funeral Home in Coldwater, Michigan, where services and interment were
held.
Dale was born December 18, 1957 in Coldwater, Michigan, and moved to this
community with his parents in September of 1972.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Latta, Withee; two sisters,
Mrs. Roger (Judith) Johnson, Owen, and Mrs. Jack (Joyce) Smith, Coldwater,
Michigan, and three brothers, George Latta Jr., Reading, Michigan, Gerald Latta,
Coldwater, Michigan, and Lyle Latta, Janesville, Michigan.
